Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea

Yesterday afternoon my mum and I went to Suka Restaurant & Bar at the Sanderson Hotel for a Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea. It was such a lovely afternoon, with a delicious cake tower of dainty food which led to many choruses of 'ooh!' and 'aah!'.

What I loved most about the tea was how everything was Alice in Wonderland themed, right down to a T. They even had the menu in old editions of books, the menu we had was in an edition from 1955. Utterly beautiful.

When we sat down, we were offered a tray of little glass trinkets filled with tea. There were strawberries and cream, apple pie, rhubarb and custard, and chocolate and mint. (You can get normal tea or coffee too, if you just ask) I went for strawberries and cream, while my mum went for apple pie, and the smell coming from our pots of tea were out of this world. It took us to Wonderland, that's for sure!

On the menu was a selection of savoury and sweet treats, including smoked ham on sundried tomato bread (absolutely heavenly) and cucumber and chive cream cheese on spinach bread (it tasted glorious). Sweet treats came in the form of elegantly shaped chocolate mini cups that were filled with matcha green tea and white chocolate mousse, mango cheesecake encased in a rainbow-coloured dish and my favourite of all, a traditional Victoria sponge with a clock face on the top. Sweet and savoury scones were also on offer, with chive butter and the traditional jam and clotted cream.

The staff were absolutely lovely, and catered to our every need - even giving us free glasses of water when we didn't even ask for it (it was quite a warm day, we certainly needed the refresher!). The restaurant was packed with lots of ladies who had come for the afternoon tea, and certainly, by the looks on their faces, they were loving it. At £38 a head, I thought it was definitely reasonable for what we got, and I did feel quite full by the end of the tea that I ended up taking home the desserts! Currently munching on the Victoria sponge while I write this ;)

Thank you Suka at Sanderson, I'll certainly be coming back for more!
